Collectibles - Pepsi Vending Machines For Interior Decorating

by Daniel Wright

A hobby that many people enjoy is gathering collectibles. Soft drink bottles are a great item to collect. In fact, you can even collect the vending machines. Some brands that people enjoy collecting are Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Mountain Dew.

Vending machine collecting is of interest to some people. The first vending machines were not machines at all but self-service bins with a coin cup. Later, automated vending machines that dispensed a soda bottle when the coin was dropped into a slot could be found. A paramount breakthrough was the vending machines that actually made change.

Since so few Pepsi machines were made in years past, it can be difficult to find vintage machines. Pepsi's bottles were made larger than those of their competition. These larger bottles didn't slide into the standard vending machines. Custom-made machines were not a viable option for the soda company.

Due to this vending machine manufacturers had to make various machines according to size and design of bottles. This led to the hike in the price of machines. Pepsi people were very cautious about the cost of the machine. They didn't upgrade their machines. Only a few of them were installed and today you can hardly find any.

Next was the emergence of electronic machines which have a small computer and collects sales and other data. These machines will become collectibles in the future. Perhaps in the future you will even be able to find a machine that dispenses soda by swiping a card. Other machine models dispense cans, and some even the modern 20 ounce size unbreakable bottles. These later models are not considered to be collectibles presently, but some people purchase these as part of their entertainment area decor.

Functional models of the rare machines that dispensed a fountain style drink in a cup is a favored niche among collectors. Some of the older models were very small and are easy to place on a table or counter. Even though these machines don't take up a lot of room, the collectors that want the larger machines will make space for them.
