Kitchen Utensils And Your Kitchen Needs

by Robin Holland-Smith

Basic kitchen utensils such as knives, forks and spoons are necessary but often overlooked items that are certainly important in our everyday use. Eating a meal without the use of these basic utensils could be quite a difficult task. Can you envision eating soup with no spoon?

Wood is among the first materials used to create kitchen utensils. Wooden kitchen utensils have been around for centuries. In western culture, silver utensils were mainly used by royalty, aristocrats and other wealthy individuals, because silver was considered to be an expensive and precious alloy. As such, poor people used cheap steel and wooden utensils for their kitchen activities.

Some people still actually use wooden kitchen implements even though this may be hard to believe. You may not know that reputable craftsmen are crafting modern wooden kitchen tools in many designs. Typically these will include mortar and pestle spreaders, spatulas, forks and spoons as well as ladles.

T&G waxed wooden utensils are a rage now. Many people are buying them for their modern kitchen. Only thing is that utensils made from wood call for proper care and maintenance for them to last a long time. Always try to hand-wash them. Never put wooden utensils in the dishwasher, as the heat from the washer will eventually cause the wood to crack. Try to hand-wash your wooden utensils with cool water, mild dishwashing soap and a soft sponge.

It is also very common for utensils to develop a grain raise whenever you hold them. The grain of the wood slightly rises because of the presence of moisture. To remove this, you simply need to use sandpaper and gently rub it on the utensil. Then wash the utensil and dry it with a clean cloth. Another substitute for sand paper is an old brown bag, which contains fibers which can act as sandpaper.

Burns, stains, dents, and other blemishes on the utensil can be removed with heavy sanding. If you see a dented area, just soak the area overnight. This will cause the wood to expand. These utensils make wonderful gifts for all occasions. They are perfect as a bridal shower gift, or as a move-in gift for that friend who has just bought a house. These utensils are a must have in any kitchen.

Basic Kitchen utensils such as knives, forks and spoons are necessary but often overlooked items that are certainly important in our everyday use. Though some consider wooden utensils traditional, many households are still using them today. As a matter of fact, wooden utensils have become modernized, and are being crafted in a variety of designs by the finest craftsmen. T&G kitchen implements are exceedingly popular nowadays. They are crafted of wood and coated with a wax finish. They have become mainstays of the contemporary cooking area. Utensils are Great gifts for any occaision. These utensils are A must have in all kitchens.
